The Community Development Department manages development within South Whitehall Township through the following divisions.  The Department is located within the Municipal Complex at 4444 Walbert Ave. and the office hours are from 8 AM until 4 PM, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).

Building and Construction

This division reviews and processes all building and construction activities through the permitting process. South Whitehall Township utilizes third party inspections through KeyCodes and Barry Isett.

Land Development

This division of the Community Development Department manages land development within the Township. Land development as describe in the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code (MPC) is defined as follows:

"(1) The improvement of one lot or two or more contiguous lots, tracts or parcels of land for any purpose involving:

(i) a group of two or more residential or nonresidential buildings, whether proposed initially or cumulatively, or a single nonresidential building on a lot or lots regardless of the number of occupants or tenure; or

(ii) the division or allocation of land or space, whether initially or cumulatively, between or among two or more existing or prospective occupants by means of, or for the purpose of streets, common areas, leaseholds, condominiums, building groups or other features.

(2) A subdivision of land."

Code Enforcement

The Township has adopted ordinances intended to promote the general welfare and harmony of the community. These laws do not cover every type of disturbance possible. For example, we do not handle any type of boundary line disputes between private property owners.

Flooding and Floodplains

South Whitehall Township voluntarily participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The NFIP is a voluntary Federal program open to local governments. Participation in the NFIP requires local governments to adopt and enforce a FEMA-approved Floodplain Ordinance.
